Car Supercharger

A car supercharger is often referred by its nickname - a blower. Car superchargers are also sometimes mistakenly called turbochargers, but they really are different. Essentially a car supercharger is a device that works by pushing the air into the engine cylinders. When this happens, the engine seems to have larger valves and cylinders, and as a result you get a "larger" engine, with more power that weighs less. In effect, a car supercharger then ‘super’ charges a cars’ performance.

History of the Car Supercharger

Although the car supercharger was invented in as early as the 1860’s, Gottlieb Daimler patented the concept in the early 1900’s. His forced-induction system for internal combustion engines was truly the first of its kind when it came to car superchargers. Over the years the concept was adapted and expanded upon. There are many types around today under such names as:

Vortec superchargers
Whipple superchargers
Procharger superchargers
Paxton superchargers
Eaton superchargers

The Right Car Supercharger For You

Not all car superchargers and turbochargers are the same. For example, there are centrifugal turbochargers, which are driven from exhaust gasses and centrifugal superchargers that are driven directly by the engine via a belt-drive. Most people in the market however are looking for mustang superchargers, corvette superchargers and other types of muscle car superchargers.
